The thought of losing weight is a daunting one, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose. If you are beginning an excerise routine and are serveraly over weight or a recovering from an injury begin start getting back in shape by walking. Start by doing as much as you can. Determine that rather than getting your mail whenever you drive by, you are going to walk out and get it every day. Decide that you are going to park farther away from the store and walk the extra spaces. Take a look at your sorroundings. Pick a landmark or something distinguishable like a telephone pole and walk to it and back everyday.
After taking slow steps you will be ready to increase your routine. Try counting the steps that you take and increase that number everyday by one hundred. You could also try intervals walking where you speed up your pace at intervals. An example of interval walking would be to walk very quickly for one minuet and then slow down for two. The longer you walk briskly and the less time you spend walking slowly will help you move towards your goal.
Finally, try walking up and down hills. Hills can be daunting, but keep going. You can employ pervious techniques with hills as well. Try making your quick interval up hill. Increase the amount you are briskly walking. You can also increase the fitness level of walking by moving your arms over head. You could also add hand weights or ankle weights to your walk.
